Where Play Leads the Way

A child-led, play-based preschool in Kirkwood, where curiosity, creativity and meaningful learning are nurtured through play, exploration and the outdoors.

Welcome to Little Footprints

Little Footprints is a private preschool in Kirkwood for children from 18 months to 4½ years of age.

Our approach is child-led, play-based and rooted in the belief that young children learn best when they are given the time and space to explore, question, create and play.

Rather than following a set theme or predetermined programme, our curriculum grows from the children themselves. Our teachers observe their interests, questions and curiosities and use these to develop meaningful lines of inquiry. These inquiries are extended through thoughtfully prepared environments, stories, conversations, creative experiences, sensory exploration and time outdoors.

Children are encouraged to move, investigate, make choices and follow their curiosity, while our teachers intentionally guide and extend the learning happening through their play.

Our Groups

Little Sprouts | 18 months–2½ years

Gentle two-hour sessions designed to introduce younger children to the preschool environment through play, exploration and connection.

Little Seedlings | 2½–4½ years

Our morning preschool programme offers children longer periods of uninterrupted play and exploration, allowing friendships, independence and deeper lines of inquiry to develop.

Why Little Footprints?

Choosing a preschool is about finding a place where your child will feel safe, known and excited to explore. We would love to introduce you to our little school and tell you more about our groups.

Child-led learning
Children’s interests, questions and ideas help shape the direction of our curriculum.

Learning through play
We recognise play as meaningful work through which young children develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.

Nature-rich childhoods
The outdoors forms a large part of our day, giving children space to move, explore, experiment and connect with the natural world.

Intentional relationships
Our teacher-child ratios allow us to know each child well and respond thoughtfully to their individual development, personality and needs.
